Vern McCallum: Photo Collector

How much of our history gets burnt or discarded in the rubbish? Probably a lot more than you think. Dutton Way resident Vern McCallum has given himself the very important job of salvaging our history through collecting and displaying historical photographs. His most significant find, the 'Thomas Hannay (1859)' collection - that includes many photographs of Aboriginals- was sitting in Portland resident Joe Wilshire's home for over 40 years and when he died his wife was planning to throw the album away in the trash...Vern was lucky to get hold of it before these photographs were lost forever.
